Fairgrove is a small village located in Tuscola County in Michigan’s Thumb region, known for its strong agricultural heritage, close-knit community and quiet rural charm. Founded in the mid-1800s, the community was originally known as Westerville before later being renamed Fairgrove to reflect the rich farmland and groves that characterized the area. Agriculture quickly became the foundation of the local economy, with generations of farming families helping shape the village’s hardworking traditions and community values.
Today, farms surrounding Fairgrove continue to produce crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and sugar beets across the fertile Thumb landscape. The village remains closely tied to its farming roots and proudly celebrates its agricultural heritage through community traditions and local events.
One of the community’s best-known traditions is the annual Fairgrove Bean Festival, which highlights the area’s farming history and brings residents and visitors together for parades, entertainment and seasonal celebrations.
Education remains an important part of village life through Akron-Fairgrove Schools, which serves students from preschool through high school and continues to be a source of local pride.
