Richville

Richville is a small unincorporated community located in Tuscola County in Michigan’s Thumb region, known for its peaceful rural setting, agricultural heritage and strong community ties. Home to several hundred residents, Richville offers the quiet charm and close-knit atmosphere that have long defined small-town life in rural Michigan.

Originally settled in the mid-1800s, the community was first known as Frankenhilf, reflecting the area’s early German immigrant roots. Richville developed through farming and the lumber industry, with dense forests gradually cleared to make way for fertile farmland and growing homesteads. The arrival of rail transportation and nearby trade routes helped support the area’s agricultural growth and local businesses.

Today, agriculture remains at the heart of the community, with area farms producing crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and sugar beets. Generations of farming families have helped preserve Richville’s hardworking traditions and rural identity.

Despite its small size, Richville maintains a strong sense of community pride. Residents actively support local churches, schools and volunteer organizations, while community gatherings and seasonal events continue to bring neighbors together throughout the year.

Students in the area typically attend Reese Public Schools or Frankenmuth School District schools, both of which have longstanding ties to families throughout the region.

Today, Richville continues to reflect the enduring values of Michigan’s rural communities — hard work, neighborly spirit and a deep connection to the land and local history.
